Dear Parents and Guardians,

A return to school is on the horizon. We’re sure that you have been following reports over the spring and summer months regarding back to school plans.  Recently the Board (OCSB) has provided information updates and has asked parents to select either in-person or online instruction delivery models.  In light of new announcements made by the Ministry of Education last week the Board is providing parents the opportunity to change their selected options.  The following form has been provided:  Change of Preference Form (August 21st deadline).  Please note that the form only needs to be completed if you are changing your in-person/online preference.

Yesterday the OCSB also provided the following updated information document:

Back to School: What’s Changed?

Back to School Information Package (Summary document, revised August 18, 2020)

Back to School Plan: A Resource for Parents (Full document, revised August 18, 2020)

At the school level we are undertaking the task of revising school schedules and preparing the building so as to comply with safety protocols.  Our school building is not yet open, but main office staff are currently on site preparing for the 2020-21 school year. Our custodial staff are also hard at work preparing for our start-up.  We know that many in our community are anxious about a return to school. As always, we are committed to working collaboratively to support and update parents and students.

We appreciate that for many the decision to return to school in-person or online was not an easy one to make l. As we progress through the school year there will be opportunity to revisit the delivery model selected for your child(ren).   The school is working closely with both the Board and Ottawa Public Health in order to implement the plan for a safe return to school for both students and staff.

Over the next several weeks we will be sharing additional information with you regarding our school site and your child(ren).   We appreciate your patience and understanding as we continue to prepare.  During the week of August 31st online learners will be advised of their class placement with the Virtual Academy.  Students attending in-person will be provided with a course timetable at the end of the same week.

Traditionally we host a welcome barbeque for our Grade 7 students and all students who are new to Sacred Heart in August. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 safety restrictions we will not be able to host the event this year.

While this isn’t the return to school our community is accustomed to, we are very much looking forward to the 2020-21 school year.  The new routines that will be established will enable students to return to learning in a supportive and productive environment.

Sincerely,

Brent Hopkins, Principal

Alanna Vandewint, Vice-Principal (student last names  A-D)

Shawn MacEachern, Vice-Principal (student last names E-K)
