June 19th, 2020

Dear Students, Parents and Guardians,

Our student access visits drew to a close today.  Thanks to the efforts of both staff and students all seemed to go smoothly.  Although they weren’t the conditions under which we’d hope to welcome students into the building, it was certainly nice to be able to see so many familiar faces.

Final Item Drop-Off

The locker access window has closed, but in many cases students chose to hold on to textbooks or other resources necessary for remaining course work.  On Thursday, June 25th and Friday, June 26th from 9am-1 pm outstanding items can be dropped off at the front doors to the school.  Items being returned can simply be placed on the return table that will be available (it will be placed just inside the door if it is raining).  We will catalogue all returns at a later date.  Any items not returned by the 26th will be collected in the fall. If possible, it would be appreciated if outstanding items are returned before the summer break (including any textbooks, team athletic uniforms and library books), as it will facilitate efficient distribution in the September.

Parent Portal

On Wednesday evening the Board sent information to all OCSB parents regarding a newly created Parent Portal.  Registration information is available at ocsb.ca/parentportal.  Final report cards will be shared through the portal.  All grade 7-12 June 2020 final report cards will be loaded into the portal for viewing on June 25th.  In preparation for their release parents are encouraged to register in advance.

#OCSB Grads Site

The Board posted a site dedicated to celebrating all OCSB graduates.  All are welcome to visit ocsb.ca/celebrating-ocsbgrads/

Awards

Both grade 7/8 and high school athletic award recipients will be announced on Tuesday, June 23rd.  We will also share all our major graduation awards this week.  That announcement will be made on Thursday, June 25th.  As shared previously, all academic awards will be awarded in the fall.   With the exception of major graduation announcements, all awards will physically be distributed in the fall.

Thank you

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all members of our school community- students, staff and parents - for your efforts over these last 3 and a half months.  There have been many obstacles, but there is also a great deal to be proud of.

As information becomes available regarding next fall we will continue to share it with you. There are many aspects of school life that have been impacted, including academic, social and extracurricular. Our goal remains to have a full return to all programs when possible.  We will continue to adhere to the parameters set out by the Board, the Province and Ottawa Public Health.

Stay strong SHHS!
