Catholic Graduate Expectations
Step 1. Browse scholartree.ca and the other external awards at the bottom of the webpage for links to awards provided by organizations outside our school and school board.
Step 2: Complete the Grad Resume (see below).
Step 3: Using the recommendations found in the email you receive after completing the grad resume, browse through the Criteria for each award in the ___________ below.
Step 4: For ANY award that you think you might qualify, complete an application. EACH AWARD has an online application. Be sure to fill out the entire form - some are more than one page long.
Step 5: SOME AWARDS require supporting documents, such as reference letters, essays and other work. These must be provided by the same deadline for each award. They must be submitted online using the link in the application form.
DEADLINES: Note the deadlines for each award. NO LATE APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED!
IMPORTANT: For any grad awards based on community service hours, please have your hours submitted by Wednesday, April 27th.
Hours submitted after this date, will not be considered in relation to awards.

CRITERIA
The Archbishop’s Award for Catholic Leadership is to be awarded to a grade 12 graduating student based on the following considerations:
1. Exemplifies dedication to spiritual and social growth within his/her parish.
2. Participated in school and parish events that have enhanced the identity of the Catholic High School.
3. Completed all the requirements for obtaining an OSS diploma, including the community service component.
CRITERIA
The Director of Education Graduate Student Award is to be awarded to a grade 12 graduating student based on the following considerations:
1. An academic average of at least 80%, based on final grades in Grade 11 courses and first semester Grade 12 courses. .
2. Completed all the requirements for obtaining an OSS diploma, including the community service component.
3. Consistently demonstrated positive social attitudes throughout his/her years of high school.
4. Consistently exemplified the expectations of the Ontario Catholic School Graduate.
5. A self-directed, responsible, lifelong learner who develops and demonstrates his/her God-given potential.
6. A caring, individual who attends to family, school, parish and the wider community.
7. Accepted at a university or college.
CRITERIA
The Volunteer Community Service Hours Award is to be awarded to a grade 12 graduating student based on the following considerations:
1. Completed all the requirements for obtaining an OSS diploma, including the community service component.
2. Included the total number of volunteer community service hours accumulated.
3. Experienced a variety of activities in these volunteer community service hours.
CRITERIA
The Director of Education Award for Academic Perseverance is to be awarded to a grade 12 graduating student based on the following considerations:
1. Demonstrated perseverance throughout their secondary education, in order to achieve academic success for an OSS diploma, including the community service component.
2. Have demonstrated courage and determination while facing and overcoming adversity.
CRITERIA
The Catholic Graduate Expectations Award is to honour a Catholic graduate from each high school based on the following considerations:
1. Participated in school, community and parish initiatives throughout their high school career that have enhanced the character of the Catholic Graduate.
2. Demonstrated the distinctive expectations as delineated in the Catholic Graduate Expectations document. He or she is expected to be; a discerning believer; a collaborative contributor; a caring family member; a self-directed, responsible, lifelong learner; a responsible citizen; an effective communicator; and a reflective, creative and holistic thinker.
CRITERIA
The Council Of Ontario Directors Of Education (CODE) will award a $2500 scholarship in support of student success and in recognition of the contributions of Frank Kelly as the Executive Director and founding member of CODE. When he retired, CODE created this scholarship in his name. Note that only 4 of these awards are presented each year to students across Ontario.
Council Of Ontario Directors Of Education Frank Kelly Award is to be awarded to a grade 12 graduating student based on the following considerations:
1. Completed all the requirements for obtaining an OSS diploma, including the community service component.
2. Has earned at least 1 dual credit.
3. Proceeding to an Ontario College.
4. Financial need could be a consideration.
APPLICATION FORM
CRITERIA
The Ottawa Catholic Trustee Service Award is to honour a Catholic graduate from each high school based on the following considerations:
1. Demonstrated extensive service in school activities for a minimum of three years.
2. Demonstrated service in the community and/or fundraising involvement.
3. Taken initiative and demonstrated leadership.
4. Completed all the requirements for obtaining an OSS diploma, including the community service component.
The student applicant can not be serving as an Ottawa Catholic School Board Student Trustee.
CRITERIA
This award is sponsored by multiple donors including Deloitte and Kanata Forming LTD. The successful candidate will be a graduating student in an Inclusion, DE or ECL program who was eligible for "school to 21" programs. The following are criteria when selecting your recipient for the student bursary:
1. A student who has displayed a positive attitude towards his or her studies.
2. A student who has demonstrated good citizenship through a positive contribution
to life at school and/or in the community.
3. A student who is planning to move into a supported work placement in the community.
CRITERIA
The Pathways to Success - Destination Employability Award is to be awarded to a grade 12 graduating student with particular focus, but without limiting such focus will be given to students who:
1. Demonstrated special dedication to pursuing a career directly after high school.
2. Attained outstanding achievement in view of their employers and cooperative education teachers.
3. Demonstrated a well-rounded achievement in their education and community involvement.
4. Been successful in their chosen pathway.
5. Completed all the requirements for obtaining an OSS diploma (30 credits), or an OSS Certificate (14 credits) or a Certificate of Accomplishment and demonstrated a special talent for their chosen pathway.
CRITERIA
The Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program Award is to be awarded to a grade 12 graduating student with particular focus, but without limiting such focus will be given to students who:
1. Demonstrated a special dedication to pursuing a career in the skilled trades. The award may be granted to someone eligible for, or enrolled in an apprenticeship program or considering an apprenticeship program.
2. Attained outstanding achievement in the view of their employers and cooperative education teachers.
3. Demonstrated a well-rounded achievement in their education and community involvement.
4. Attained outstanding achievement in the context of economic, cultural or social barriers.
5. Completed all the requirements for obtaining an OSS diploma, including the community service component.
Have included one reference from your employer, and may include up to one other (a cooperative education teacher, teacher, community leader, etc.) as applicable.
CRITERIA
This $2000 award honours Devon Haye who was a student at St. Francis Xavier High School from 2009 until his graduation in 2015. He distinguished himself both academically and socially through his studies, extracurricular involvement and creativity at the school.
1. 85% average throughout your high school years.
2. A resume outlining the activities through which you have shown strong commitment and balance between academic and co-curricular activities. These activities do not have to be limited within school time and could be extra-curricular such as volunteering above the required 40 hrs through school.
3. Two reflective discourses by you (maximum 300 words each) addressing the points in the application sections below.
4. A maximum of two letters of reference, attesting to your fulfillment of the spirit of this award, sent directly to the awards coordinator.
CRITERIA
The Walking Towards Reconciliation Award is to be awarded to a grade 12 graduating student based on the following considerations:
1. Demonstrated empathy and understanding of the context, culture, perspectives, and history regarding Indigenous peoples.
2. Involved with an initiative, project or event that has tried to encourage reconciliation.
3. Demonstrated through their daily actions and behaviours an appreciation of the value of Indigenous cultures to Canadian society.
Note: Both Indigenous and non-Indigenous students are eligible for this award. It is an asset to have taken an Indigenous Studies course.
CRITERIA
The Ashfield Community Involvement Award is to be awarded to a grade 12 graduating student based on the following considerations:
1. Completed all the requirements for obtaining an OSS diploma, including the community service component.
2. Accepted for studies at a College or University.
3. Have significant financial challenges associated with continuing their post-secondary pathway.
Criteria:
Each year, the Richmond Village Association awards a $1,000 award to a graduating student currently attending high school who reside within the Village of Richmond. These students may attend either South Carleton HS, Ecole Secondaire Catholique Paul-Demarais, or Sacred Heart HS. The award recipient will be selected by the Richmond Village Association selection committee.
The purpose of this award is to reduce financial barriers to the deserving student who plans to continue post-secondary education.
Criteria:
Charlotte's Kindness Award is to be awarded to a grade 12 graduating student based on the following considerations:
1. Completed all the requirements for obtaining an OSS diploma, including the community service component.
2. Accepted for studies at a College or University.
3. Have significant financial challenges associated with continuing their post-secondary pathway.
4. Can provide evidence of:
- being kind to others
- going above and beyond to help others
- supporting those struggling with mental health
- actively reducing stigma surrounding mental health
- being involved in raising awareness about mental health
Criteria:
This award is for a student who has supported the Shepherds of Good Hope and its community members.

Criteria
CFUW/Kanata Scholarship Trust is offering a $1,000 scholarship to one female student graduating from Sacred Heart this year who will be going to university or a provincially accredited college. To be considered for this scholarship, you must submit an application to the
CFUW/Kanata Scholarship Trust Awards Committee no later than May 12th, 2023.
Criteria:

The Stittsville District Lions Club supports Academic Achievement by awarding Bursaries to (5) first year College or University students of $1000.00 dollars each. More information here.
CRITERIA
The Edward J. Cuhaci & Associates Architects Award is to be awarded to a grade 12 graduating student based on the following considerations:
1. Planning to take a post-secondary program in the design/architectural studies field, college or university.
2. Achievement in design/architectural related courses in high school.
3. A portfolio, consisting of a minimum of three (3) submissions in the design area (i.e. computer design, artistic design or other related fields).
4. Completed all the requirements for obtaining an OSS diploma, including the community service component.
Criteria

Registered in the 2023-2024 minor hockey season as a player or official and in good standing with SMHA
You must be graduating from a secondary school in spring 2023.
You must be pursuing a career requiring further education or training (e.g. university, college, trade school etc.)
You must have played minor hockey with SMHA for a minimum of three years. Note: IP and Novice years do not qualify (first year of eligibility is Minor Atom); or you must have officiated with SMHA for a minimum of three years
Note: Students who have a parent or guardian on the SMHA Executive are ineligible.
CRITERIA
The Mike Baine Award is to be awarded to a grade 12 graduating student based on the following considerations:
1. Completed all the requirements for obtaining an OSS diploma, including the community service component.
2. A student who puts people first, who lifts others up, who sets and achieves ambitious goals, who pushes through adversity with a positive spirit, who is dedicated to volunteerism, and who embraces life fully, wholly and with the greatest joy and optimism.
SELECTION PROCESS
The School-Based Honours and Awards Committee will determine the appropriate candidate and submit their choice using the Mike Baine Form link. The Baine Family will select one recipient.
CRITERIA
The Sweetnam Engineering Graduation Award is to be awarded to a grade 12 graduating student from one of the following high schools: All Saints, Holy Trinity and Sacred Heart, with particular focus, but without limiting such focus will be given to students who have:
1. Completed all of the requirements for obtaining an OSS Diploma, including the community service component.
2. Demonstrated a need for financial support.
3. Seeking further education in Engineering.
4. Demonstrated that they are a hard-working, diligent student.
5. Demonstrated a well-rounded involvement in their school and community.
CRITERIA
The National Bank of Canada Award is to be awarded to a grade 12 graduating student based on the following considerations:
1. Completed all the requirements for obtaining an OSS diploma, including the community service component.
2. Student plans to take a post-secondary program in college or university.
Criteria:
This award honours students who were members of West Ottawa Basketball, are leaders in school athletics, and who intend on being involved with basketball in some form once they start their college or university careers.
CRITERIA:
The recipient must demonstrate a commitment to the principles of Catholic social teaching and social justice throughout their secondary school experience.
The Ottawa Catholic Teachers is pleased to award $1,000.00 to ONE graduating student in each OCSB High School, Algonquin Achievement Centre, St. John Bosco at Operation Come Home, and St. Mary's Personalized Learning Centre, to further their post-secondary education.
CRITERIA
The Your Credit Union for Overall Achievement Award is to be awarded to a grade 12 graduating student based on the following considerations:
1. Demonstrated strong work ethic, community or school involvement.
2. Have financial need for assistance to pursue his/her education goals whether at college or university level.
These awards are not presented at our Graduation Ceremony but students are encouraged to apply.
